Rainbow Fruit Skewers
Looking for a fun snack, side dish, dessert or party food that packs a big punch?
Then these rainbow fruit skewers are for you!
My girls declared that these Rainbow Skewers were the “besssst thing evvvveeerrrrrr!!”
Before devouring the entire batch of skewers and dip in like 3 minutes flat.
A little 🌈 magic is always good for the soul!
These skewers are super easy to prepare and can be customized based on whatever fruit you have on hand. I used raspberries, mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, kiwi, blueberries and blackberries for the full rainbow effect, but if you don’t have all of those fruits or want to sub in strawberries instead of raspberries then go for it!
The dip is super bonkers amazing and I have since made it every day for myself for breakfast. It’s also easy to make – greek yogurt, a swirl of honey, a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of lemon zest for a little more citrus pow! It’s sweet, creamy, and citrusy without being overpowering – the perfect combination.

Fruits to Use
There are so many fruits that you can use to create rainbow skewers! Have some fun and use what you have on hand, that suits your preferences or is easily available at your grocery store.
- Red: strawberries, raspberries, pitted red cherries, red plums, watermelon, and red apples.
- Orange: cantaloupe, oranges, mandarin oranges, tangerines, kumquats, mango, papaya, persimmons, apricots, nectarines, and peaches.
- Yellow: pineapple, starfruit, banana, and golden delicious apples.
- Green: green grapes, pear, kiwi, and honeydew.
- Blue: blueberries, and some concord grapes.
- Purple: blackberries, plums, and purple grapes.
Fruit Tip: I recommend only using fresh or canned fruit for these skewers. Frozen and then thawed fruit will become too flimsy and will fall off of the skewer.
Cooking with Kids
This recipe is beyond easy and such a great recipe for kids of any age to help make.
Toddlers and Preschoolers
- Measure the ingredients for the dip out for them (they can also help with this process) and have them pour them into a bowl before mixing. I always find that having a bowl bigger than you actually need helps toddlers not make as big as a mess.
- Have them help prep the fruit.
- Have them thread the fruit onto their own skewers.
Kids
- Measure the ingredients for the dip and mix them all together.
- Wash, peel and chop any fruit they feel like using.
- Thread the fruit onto the skewers.
- Place everything on a plate or into their lunch boxes.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, not really. I have found that the fruit makes the skewer soggy which makes the fruit start to fall off of the skewer. A better plan would be to prep the fruit the night before and store it in an air-tight container lined with paper towels in the fridge overnight.
No. Since we are not grilling the fruit, you do not need to soak the skewers before you start assembling.
Depending on the fruit and the age of your child, you can use chunks, balls, quarters or rounds. You want the piece of fruit to be big enough to be able to be threaded onto a skewer and to stay put.
How to Store Fruit Skewers
You can make and store fruit skewers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a few hours before needed. But any longer and the skewers may get soggy and your fruit may start to fall off. If you need to prep the skewers hours in advance, then a good plan is to prep the fruit beforehand and store it in an air-tight container and then make the skewers right before needed.
You can store the Lemon Yogurt Dip in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Recipe Tips
- Picky Eaters: let the kids pick which fruits they want on the skewers. They don’t need to be a whole rainbow to enjoy them.
- No Soaking: since you are not grilling the fruit, you do not need to soak the skewer before you start assembling the fruit skewers.
- Prevent Browning: use a squeeze of lemon juice on the fruit that may turn brown over time – bananas, pears, apples, etc.
- Skewers: you can use any skewers you have on hand, but we love using lollipop sticks or small wooden skewers with the point cut off.
